GFWC Signature Program:

Domestic and Sexual Violence

Awareness and Prevention

The GFWC Signature Program’s goal is to increase awareness of and help prevent the widespread occurrence of violence against women in communities across the nation—and the globe. Areas of focus include Intimate Partner Violence, Child Abuse, Teen Dating, Campus Sexual Assault, Elder Abuse, Violence Against Native American Women, and Military Sexual Assault.

Additionally, our Delaware state president has named Anti-Human Trafficking as her President's Special Project for her 2 year term.

Here are some of the ways in which we support this program:

What is Your Voice? (Voices Against Sexual Violence

What is Your Voice is a a 501(c)3 public non-profit corporation that provides
holistic crisis care and intensive aftercare for women and children who are
survivors of domestic violence in Sussex County.  We support them with
monetary donations, food drives, collections of needed items as well as program
assistance when requested. For the fourth year, in 2022 members provided Christmas
gifts and festive cookies for the 90+ children in the program.   This past fall we partnered
with Edward Jones to fill every child's book bag so they would have all the supplies they
needed to have a successful school year.

People’s Place

People's Place is an organization that provides a variety of programs and services to families, adults and children of lower Delaware.  The Safe Program at People’s Place provides a safe environment, shelter, and support for women and children in domestic violence situations in Kent and Sussex Counties. The Group Home for Girls provides a home-like environment for abused and/or neglected teenage girls in the foster care system, ages 13 to 17, with an emphasis on independent living skills.

Items Collected for The Safe Program:

  • Slippers and socks (winter) and flip flops (summer) for women and children
